Gibraltar legalises medical marijuana

Medical marijuana has been legal in the UK since the beginning of November last year. However, despite this, prescriptions are like gold dust – with estimated figures for current prescribed users being only in the double digits.

This month the government of, British Overseas Territory, Gibraltar announced that they would be legalising medical marijuana for the treatment of several health conditions including ‘life-threatening' pain, Multiple Sclerosis, severe epilepsy, muscle spasms and the side effects resulting from chemotherapy such as nausea and vomiting.

With a list of ailments like this the potential to see more prescriptions handed out in Gibraltar than the UK is promising. However, only time will tell. GP and Acting Medical Director at the Gibraltar Health Authority, Krishna Rawal, sees the decision as a great milestone, stating “In my view, CBD oil has become so helpful in modern medical care for some patients.”

As of this report prescriptions of medical marijuana will only be fillable at the pharmacy in St. Bernard’s Hospital.
