UK-based confectionery company Sweetdreams is currently working with industry leaders to develop a unique line of sweets infused with cannabidiol. Sweetdreams have partnered up with Andy Baxendale, a confectionery consultant with over two decades of experience in the confectionery industry, as well as an MSc in Advanced Food Manufacturing.
Sweetdreams specialize in producing confectionery with a somewhat healthier slant, offering an extensive range of nuts, raisins and other dried fruits covered in yoghurt and chocolate. They are also the masterminds behind Chocnibbles, a range of moreish chocolate treats used to top cupcakes, ice cream and milkshakes.
Playing to their strengths (with some CBD help)
So far, Baxendale and Sweetdreams have not strayed too far from what the company knows best – and have focused on combining hemp oil UK with milk, dark and white chocolate to produce chocolate covered almonds, goji berries, cranberries and honeycomb. The collaboration has also produced solid dark chocolate CBD balls and malt balls, akin to Maltesers. They say chocolate is close to orgasmic at times and we say if you can't have CBD lube to help your sex life then chocolate is the next best thing.
On why CBD oil has enjoyed such a surge in popularity in recent years, Baxendale said “I’m not sure why CBD oil is so popular in chocolate – I think that chocolate is an easy medium for people to eat, especially if they feel that their “naughty” treat has some benefit now in the form of the addition of CBD oil – kind of “naughty but nice”.
Confectionery Production website reports that this is not the first time that Baxendale has dipped his toes into the CBD pond, having collaborated with The CBD Works earlier this year as the Technical Director of their CBD edibles including gummies devision to produce a range of artisinal, hand-crafted and vegan CBD lozenges. In the past, Baxendale has worked with a wealth of beloved sweet brands as a respected national consultant, including a sting as the product development manager for Chewits.
Thanks to 24+ years of industry experience, Baxendale has also become something of a confectionery celebrity, and has made numerous TV and radio appearances, including a documentary on Marks & Spencers to talk about the much-loved Percy Pig gummies. As the mastermind behind so many of the most popular sweets in the UK, it will be exciting to see what Baxendale and Sweetdreams have in store.
