There is some evidence to suggest that benefits like CBD helps prevent metabolism issues.
New scientific research studies indicate that CBD has certain stomach fat reducing properties.
The research, published in the journal “Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry”, linked cannabidiol to three causes of “fat browning”, which turns the dangerous white fat associated with obesity and diabetes into hard-working brown fat cells. These actively aid weight loss by burning extra calories through thermogenesis, your body’s heat-production process.
Medical News Today also claims that CBD may aid weight loss due to how it works on the body. This is all down to our built-in endocannabinoid system and two cannabinoid receptors called CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors exist in the brain and central nervous system. CB2 exist throughout the body. Receptors are involved in regulating the body's ‘homeostasis’ – CBD can help regulate the body's metabolism.
CB1 receptors are more widespread in fatty tissue. Researchers believe there is a link between the activation of the CB1 receptor and obesity.

How does this play a role in weight loss?
Medical News Today explains:
“CBD does not activate the CB receptors directly, instead of influencing the body's natural cannabinoids to either block off or activate the receptors. This may play a role in weight loss or other critical metabolic functions.”
Turns bad fat to good fat
A medical study from 2016 backs up the claim that CBD can convert white (bad) fat into brown fat (better) which helps the body burn calories. White fat is not a good fat as it increases the risk of many diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. As well as converting white adipose tissue to brown fat (the better kind) it also stimulates the body to break down fat more efficiently. The world of research is now looking at CBD as a promising therapy for preventing obesity in humans.
Feel the burn
An ongoing theory has also been that CBD melts away fat in the body by breaking down fat and eliminating it as waste. As recent as 2018 a report found that the actual process of turning white fat cells to brown takes energy – this is burned off as heat – in layman's terms actually burning calories. You know what burning calories means? – the whole crux of weight loss – increasing your metabolic rate and in turn losing weight.
What’s more, CBD reduces the expression of proteins involved in creating new fat cells, and it boosts the number of mitochondria in your brown fat cells. This could further increase their fat-stripping power, the scientists suggest.
CBD blocks receptors
We have all been schooled on the close link between obesity and type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Research has found that the overactivation of the CB receptors in the body may be partly responsible for this. CBD blocks these receptors to reduce the risk of serious weight gain.
While THC stimulates appetite, CBD does not. Authors of the Medical News Study in 2018 note that:
“CB1 receptor antagonists may help reduce appetite and control obesity. This is because CB1 receptor agonists block off or “deactivate” the receptor.”
Shutting off these receptors help reduce the appetite and prevents overeating.
Does the fat just melt away with CBD oil?
Yes and no – this is very promising studies in CBD and weight management. However, it does not replace a healthy diet and regular exercise. Consider it as a complementary therapy. Dosage again is super important.
For those of us looking to lose weight, burn calories and suppress appetite it is certainly an option.
The theory that CBD actively aids weight loss by burning extra calories through thermogenesis, the body’s heat production process has been proven.
Self-love and CBD as your weight loss ally
A Canadian brand called Icaria produces CBD for women and advocates its role in weight loss. Their tagline is ‘Empowering women to put themselves first’.
They have products based on your entry-level to CBD, your budget and hemp strength. Aphrodite and Thea – aptly named oils have a cult following of successful women who wax lyrical on the review page about their CBD journey with this brand and blogs answer all your burning female-related CBD questions. They believe CBD could be a loyal ally in losing weight because it; suppresses appetite, increases metabolic activity (turning white fat into brown), regulates our stress hormones and helps us sleep which of course is one of the root causes of weight gain.
They believe CBD’s main goal is to bring balance back to the body. They also believe that if someone wants to lose weight it should come from a place of self-love.
New studies indicate that CBD oil has belly-shrinking properties, so, is it time to spark up your metabolism and give it a try?
A CBD trifecta
It would seem that CBD can curb your appetite, control your weight and at the same time calm you down. With more evidence and new research coming to the fore there may be a potential tsunami of demand for CBD weight-loss products.
